Vivo V27 Pro Review: Capable camera performance in a stylish package

Vivo has launched the new Vivo V27 Pro smartphone in India, the latest in the company’s popular mid-range V-series smartphone lineup. The device has a stunning design and a one-of-a-kind colour-changing back, as well as impressive camera performance, as expected from Vivo’s V-series. The question is whether these features are sufficient to justify the phone’s high price. To address this concern, Vivo has made every effort to provide a well-balanced combination of hardware and software. Furthermore, the Vivo V27 Pro improves on its predecessor in a number of ways, which we will go over in detail in this review.

Price and Availability

The new Vivo V27 Pro smartphone, the latest in the company’s famous mid-range V-series smartphone lineup, has been launched in India. The device has a stunning design as well as a one-of-a-kind colour-changing back, as well as the impressive camera performance that Vivo’s V-series is known for. The question is whether these features are adequate to justify the high price of the phone. Vivo has made every effort to offer a well-balanced combination of hardware and software to address this concern.

Design

With a weight of only 182g, the Vivo V27 Pro is a relatively lightweight phone that may appeal to those looking for an alternative to the number of larger smartphones in its price range. Its dimensions of 164.1*74.8*7.36 mm makes it a slim device in comparison to its competitors. The phone’s right edge houses a USB-C port, volume rocker, and power button, but it lacks a 3.5mm headphone jack, which might also disappoint wired headphones users. All of the buttons are easily accessible, and we found it easy to use the phone with just one hand.

The glass coating on the phone protects the display and the back, while the back is protected by ‘Fluorite AG’ glass. This gives the device a sleek look and premium feel, though it may not be as resistant to drops and impacts as an aluminium frame phone. The three cameras are housed in an elegant rectangular camera module on the phone’s back.

Display

This is one of the most beautiful displays I’ve seen on a mid-ranger in a long time. The panel measures 6.78 inches and has a gentle 3D curve around the edges, with a small cut-out at the top for the front-facing camera. The bezels around the screen are also slim, which looks nice. The AMOLED display has a resolution of 24001080 (FHD+) in terms of technical specifications.

With the default settings, the colours on the curved panel appeared somewhat dull at first. However, after adjusting the display settings, I found the perfect balance for my tastes. The curved panel then delivered sharp, accurate, and vivid colours. The display has a maximum refresh rate of 120Hz and an adaptive refresh rate feature called Smart Switch. Based on the content being viewed, this feature automatically switches the screen refresh rate between 60Hz and 120Hz. However, this feature’s implementation is not always consistent.

No stereo speakers

It would have been ideal if Vivo had included speakers that matched the display’s quality. The V27 Pro, on the other hand, only has a loud, bottom-firing speaker, which doesn’t do the display’s capabilities justice. Your hand, like most bottom-firing speakers, can easily block it. Vivo appears to have cut corners to keep the price low by not including a dual speaker setup on the device.

Software

The Vivo V27 Pro ships with Android 13 and Vivo’s Funtouch OS 13 skin, and my first impressions of the UI have been favourable. Despite some bloatware that can be removed, the software is clean and easy to use, especially with the fast display refresh rate. Funtouch’s horizontal-screen functionality is a standout feature, allowing you to scroll through menus for specific productivity and business functions. Additionally, the dynamic effects that can be customised, such as changing animations or ambient light effects, are appealing additions.

Performance

The Vivo V27 Pro is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 8200 chipset, which is also found in the iQOO Neo 7. The chipset is complemented by 12GB of LPDDR5 RAM and 256GB of internal storage.

In terms of performance, the V27 Pro is capable of handling demanding tasks like gaming and multitasking. The device performed admirably during my gaming session, which included playing COD: Mobile and Asphalt 9: Legends at maximum graphics settings. I didn’t notice any lag or frame drops, which could have ruined my gaming experience. The device was extremely responsive and instantly connected to the servers. Even after extended gaming sessions, the heat management was promising.

Camera

The Vivo V27 Pro is equipped with four cameras, three on the back and one on the front. The primary rear camera has a 50 MP Sony IMX766V lens, and I was impressed with its performance. The photographs were vibrant and full of detail. The lens’s Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) was extremely effective at reducing the impact of shaky hands on the image. An 8MP ultra-wide sensor as well as a 2MP macro sensor are also included. The device has a zoom range of up to 10x, but the results are only good at 5x because 10x fails to capture details. You will also notice a significant change in colour tone when switching from the primary camera to the ultra-wide-angle camera.

Battery

In comparison to many of its premium competitors, like the IQOO Neo 7 and OPPO Reno8 T 5G, the Vivo V27 Pro has a relatively small 4600mAh battery. I used it throughout the day for tasks such as texting and music streaming, and it lasted until bedtime with some juice remaining. However, when I used the device for more demanding tasks such as playing games, taking photos, using social media, and so on, I experienced battery anxiety, and the device didn’t last a day. The device has a 66W fast charging capability, which allows it to charge from 0 to 100% in 45 minutes with an active internet connection.

Verdict

After using the Vivo V27 Pro, it’s clear that the phone is a good option for those looking for a device under 40,000, particularly camera enthusiasts, gamers, or users who prefer a slim and light phone. While it’s a good buy for the price, if you want the best camera or user interface experience, you should look into the iQOO Neo 7 or OPPO Reno8 T.
