OM Digital Solutions Corporation is pleased to introduce the OM SYSTEM OM-5: an ideal companion for both big and small adventures. The OM-5 is a versatile addition to the OM SYSTEM range, ranging from local micro excursions to exciting exploits in far-flung locations.
This full-featured Micro Four Thirds System interchangeable lens camera features durable dustproof and splashproof performance, as well as freezeproof protection down to 14°F, making it ideal for those who live an active lifestyle, allowing worry-free photography in harsh environments that several other cameras cannot withstand. This powerful, yet portable, camera body comes with additional features to inspire creative shooting, such as computational photography features like 50MP Handheld High Res Shot and Live ND, along with support for vertical video playback on smartphones.
The powerful in-body 5-axis image stabilisation, combined with compact, lightweight M.Zuiko Digital lenses, delivers exceptional image quality in a highly mobile interchangeable lens camera, making it the ideal outdoor adventure camera. The OM-5 is ready to capture stunning images at any time, in any location, and in any environment.
Small and light body, with 5-axis image stabilisation.
The OM SYSTEM OM-5 features 5-axis Image Stabilisation in a small package measuring 125.3 x 85.2 x 49.7 mm (WHD) and weighing 12.91 oz (camera body only). It provides up to 6.5 shutter speed steps of image stabilisation, which increases to 7.5 steps when combined with a compatible lens thanks to 5-axis sync IS. The camera’s powerful image stabilisation allows it to shoot with slow shutter speed effects in situations where a tripod cannot be used, making it the ideal travel companion for photo opportunities.
IP53 Protection Class weather sealing
The OM SYSTEM OM-5 is equipped with sealing throughout, providing IP53 dustproof and splashproof performance as well as freezeproof protection to 14°F, the same high level of weather resistance as that of the OM SYSTEM OM-1 flagship model. This design allows users to focus on photo opportunities even in harsh conditions without worrying about damaging their equipment due to unexpected rain showers, snow, or water droplets. The camera also has the SSWF (Supersonic Wave Filter), which significantly reduces dust and dirt on the image sensor while changing lenses, making this a fantastic model for active shooting as well as peace of mind for those who need to change lenses outside.
Versatile Computational photography
Computational photography features enable users to capture photos that would otherwise require specialised equipment or image editing software. The OM SYSTEM OM-5 is loaded with useful, versatile computational photography features that inspire creative shooting, such as High Res Shot and Live ND.
This model supports Handheld High-Res Shot, which combines multiple images to create images with a resolution of approximately 50 Megapixels. Users can enjoy hand-held shooting from nearly every angle while capturing high-resolution images with this feature. Merging multiple images improves resolution while also reducing noise. This model also includes the popular Tripod High-Res Shot feature.
Pro Capture starts recording when the shutter button is halfway pressed and records previous frames starting when the shutter button is fully pressed, ensuring users never miss moments due to human reaction and camera operation time lag. Up to 14 previous frames can be captured with high-speed sequential shooting at up to 30 fps (AF/AE locked).
Focus Stacking takes eight shots at different focal lengths and automatically merges them into a single image, allowing users to incorporate background defocusing effects without stopping down the aperture too much for control over the depth of field that matches the subject. This function is useful for macro photography.
Compensation for Keystone
Users can view effects in the Live View screen while using vertical/horizontal simultaneous trapezoidal compensation as well as perspective enhancement, just like when shooting with a shift lens. Live Bulb, Interval Shooting/Time Lapse Movie, Focus Bracketing, HDR, Colour Creator, Art Filter, as well as Fisheye Compensation are among the other features.
Vertical video recording and high-quality 4K hand-held video recording
The OM SYSTEM OM-5’s powerful in-body 5-axis image stabilisation is also video recording compatible. When used in conjunction with the dedicated video electronic stabilisation, it allows for stable, hand-held 4K recording with no time constraints. To deliver smooth focusing that matches the characteristics of videos, the camera uses On-chip Phase Detection AF sensor information for video focusing control.
- UVC (USB Video Class)/UAC (USB Audio Class) support allows it to be used as a high-quality web camera by simply connecting it to a computer via USB.
- Equipped with AF Target mode, which allows you to choose any odd number of points from 11 vertical as well as 11 horizontal points depending on subject movement and position. There are three levels of vertical and horizontal AF area movement steps to choose from.
- Equipped with exposure equalisation processing to deal with abrupt changes in exposure between frames when shooting intervals.
The ECG-5 External Grip (now available) has a shutter release and a Control Dial, providing a better hold and controls when attached to the camera. The RM-WR1 Wireless Remote Control (now available) allows for remote shooting and has IP57 dust proof and splash proof performance. It also has an energy-saving design that communicates via Bluetooth Low Energy and can be used to start and stop video recording. When connected via the included cable, this accessory can also be used as a wired remote control.
Assistance with photography and editing
The smartphone app OM Image Share (OI.Share) is used to connect to the camera through the use of Wi-Fi, transfer shooting data, and perform remote operation. Using a Bluetooth Low Energy connection with the smartphone, location information is obtained and embedded in recorded images. Voice control operations, in addition to tap operations, are now available in Wireless Release.
