The POCO F4 comes with Android 12, up to 8 GB of RAM, and some small upgrades

The brand is excited about the POCO F4 5G. It is the spiritual successor to the POCO F3 GT and, in many respects, brings back pleasant memories of the POCO F1 from last year. Situated in a position that is highly competitive, though, where the iQOO Neo 6, Realme GT Neo 2, and Mi 11X are at ease.

It has a lot going for it, including a minimalist design with a plush feel on the back, a big 6.67-inch AMOLED display, the dependable Snapdragon 870, and some cutting-edge cooling techniques. At 27,999, POCO has made a discount, but can it unseat the iQOO Neo 6 as the favourite in the category?

Specifications

The Snapdragon 870, one of Qualcomm’s most dependable high-end chipsets, is what powers the POCO F4 5G. To control it, POCO is employing the second iteration of their LiquidCool technology. According to POCO, it employs seven layers of graphite sheets and has a surface area of 3112m2. All of this is done to prevent throttling when carrying out demanding duties for a lengthy time. The POCO F4 5G’s operating system is MIUI 13.0.2, which is based on Android 12. By default, it uses the POCO Launcher 3 skin, which we find to be rather nice.

There are two RAM and storage configurations for the phone: one has 8GB of LPDDR5 RAM and 128GB of internal UFS 3.1 storage, while the other has 12GB RAM and 256GB ROM. You benefit from speedy read and write speeds as well as incredibly quick programme loading times thanks to the most recent storage and RAM technology. You may anticipate having decent coverage whenever 5G launches in India because the SoC is 5G-capable and features 10 5G bands.

Design

The POCO F4 5G is another example of the squared-off smartphones that will dominate 2022. It is made of flat glass sandwiched between a chamfered plastic frame. It’s a little difficult to pick up the phone when it’s flat on a surface because, other than the chamfer, the frame isn’t curved in any way. Although POCO hasn’t said what shields the rear glass, it has a nice velvety texture and is pleasurable to the touch. Despite spending time with keys and cash in our pants pocket, it hasn’t yet sustained any scratches, no matter how large or tiny.

The speaker grille, mic hole, and IR blaster are located on the phone’s top surface. The volume rockers and lock button are located on the right side, while a USB Type-C connector and a dual SIM slot are located on the phone’s bottom. Keep in mind that this phone lacks a microSD card slot.

Display

The POCO F4 5G’s face is lit up by a 6.67-inch AMOLED screen with FHD+ resolution (2400 x 1080). It features a touch sampling rate of 360Hz and refreshes at 120Hz. All of this enables a display that is strikingly accurate and slick. Playing games, sending texts, scrolling through your feed, and multitasking in a multi-window view are all enjoyable activities. It’s actually quick and creates a positive performance impression. In order to provide you an even smoother experience, the display also has MEMC (Motion Estimation, Motion Compensation), which artificially adds frames to material that has a lower frame rate. Additionally, you receive complete DCI-P3 colour gamut coverage, which is great for picture editing.

Additionally, it is the first POCO device to be certified for HDR10+, Dolby Vision, and Atmos. On the POCO F4 5G’s display, we watched a tonne of videos, films, and TV episodes, and it was plenty sharp and saturated. I could watch 2160p HDR films on YouTube, and the display automatically makes use of Dolby Vision.

Camera

Three cameras are located at the rear of the POCO F4 5G in a circular casing that is housed inside a rectangle building. Although a little complex, it is not disconcerting to the sight.

A 64-megapixel main camera with 3-axis optical image stabilisation stands out from the competition (OIS). This is followed by an 8-megapixel ultrawide and a 2-megapixel macro camera, bringing the total to three. Although the camera UI and colour calibration are different, this is comparable to what the iQOO Neo 6 provides.

On both the primary and ultrawide cameras, we discovered that the photographs favoured the warmer side more. The main camera did a superb job of capturing clarity and details during the day. It is ideal that the HDR is less harsh than that of the iQOO Neo 6.

Battery

A 4,500mAh battery powers the POCO F4 5G and can be topped off with the included 67W “Sonic” charger. With normal use, the battery lasts roughly a day, but we were able to get about 7.5 hours of screen time. This is comparable to the offerings of the iQOO Neo 6.

From 0 to 80% charge, it takes roughly 45 minutes, after which it slows down to protect the battery. We are thus looking at a little under an hour for a complete charge. While charging quickly, the phone does become a bit warm, but not to the point that the microcontroller had to slow down the charging. As a result, the iQOO Neo 6 outperforms the POCO F4 5G in terms of charging speeds.
