Design
Vivo has always placed a strong emphasis on smartphone design and has released some futuristic devices in recent years. With its colour-changing back panel as well as flat-frame thin profile, the Vivo Y100 hits the sweet spot. At first glance, it appears to be a standard smartphone. The magic happens when the light rays strike the back panel. We’re talking about the colour-changing pattern here. Vivo sent us the Pacific Blue colour variant for review, which changes its skin to a different shade of aqua blue once exposed to light or sun rays.
When touched, the back panel has a shimmering surface but a matte finish. During our testing, the back panel frequently picked up fingerprints and smudges.
Ports
The remaining design elements are consistent with other popular Vivo Y series phones. On the right spine, you’ll find the volume and power buttons, as well as a USB Type-C port, a 3.5mm headphone jack, as well as the speaker grilles. The Y100 5G’s left panel is blank, with the hybrid SIM slot located on the top frame.
Display
The Vivo Y100 features an impressive AMOLED screen that is vibrant and functional. The Vivo Y100 has a screen size of 6.38 inches. Although it is smaller than most of the country’s budget phones, it is still suitable for video playback and gaming. The Y100’s AMOLED screen has a 1080p FHD+ resolution and a refresh rate of 90Hz. Touch feedback while scrolling is smooth, and visual clarity is excellent. The panel can produce vibrant colours while also producing deeper levels of black.
We’ve had a good time watching TV shows and movies. In addition, if you prefer a mobile screen for entertainment, the Y100 is a good choice. The viewing experience is also improved because the panel here is HDR10+ certified and has a peak brightness of 1300 nits. This meets the needs of audiences who are constantly on the move and find it difficult to watch videos on laptops or large-screen tablets.
Processor
The octa-core Dimensity 900 mobile chipset powers the Vivo Y100. This is a premium mid-range mobile chipset found in a number of popular mid-range handsets, including the Infinix Zero 5G, OnePlus Nord CE 2 5G, and many others. The performance delivery is excellent, especially when the tasks are simple or moderate. The Vivo Y100 didn’t flinch much with power delivery and was able to perform smoothly even with demanding tasks. The Y100 also provides fast graphics rendering thanks to the integrated Mali-G68 MC4 GPU.
The firmware that comes pre-installed on the Vivo Y100 5G is FunTouch OS 13, which is based on Android 13. While Vivo has made several positive changes to its in-house user interface, it is still bloatware-free.
Battery
The battery capacity inside the Vivo Y100 5G is 4,500 mAh. The battery size may have been significantly reduced when compared to other budget Vivo handsets, but performance is not compromised. The average backup time for the Vivo Y100 battery is nearly a full day. But only if you use the phone moderately throughout the day. When you play for an extended period of time, your battery will drain faster. This device comes with a 44W fast charger that charges the device from zero to 100 percent in less than an hour.
Camera
With its handsets, Vivo is known for providing the best-in-class mobile camera experience. With its capable 64MP triple rear cameras as well as a 16MP selfie snapper, the Vivo Y100 has certainly established this fact. The primary photography hardware at the back includes a 64 MP main sensor with an f/1.8 aperture, PDAF (Phase Detection Autofocus), & OIS (Optical Image Stabilisation).
Vivo is currently marketing this set – up as an anti-shake camera due to the phone’s ability to capture clear shots in the presence of a moving background. It’s one of the most significant advantages that the Y100’s cameras have over competitors. The main 64MP sensor is paired with a pair of 2MP lenses for depth and macro photography. Overall, these dedicated sensors perform averagely.
Verdict
The Vivo Y100 is a complete package for users with less than Rs. 25,000 in their budget. It not only meets multimedia needs, but it also caters to mobile gaming and photography enthusiasts in the country. If you want a fully-loaded premium mid-range Android phone with a unique colour changing design, you can go with the Vivo Y100 5G.
