With precision timing, Motorola has introduced its latest addition to the G series lineup, the Moto G64 5G, aiming to make a mark in the premium budget segment. This device follows in the footsteps of its predecessor, the Moto G54, offering incremental upgrades while retaining its predecessor’s design language.
After extensively testing the device for approximately two weeks, I’m here to share my thoughts on the Moto G64 5G. If you’re contemplating this handset as your next budget smartphone, this review is a must-read.
Moto G64 5G Pricing in India
Let’s start with pricing details. The Moto G64 5G is currently available in India, priced at Rs. 13,999 for the 8GB + 128GB storage variant and Rs. 15,999 for the 12GB + 256GB variant. Our review unit boasts 12GB RAM and 256GB storage. The handset comes in three enticing color options – Ice Lilac, Mint Green, and Pearl Blue. I had the opportunity to explore the Mint Green variant.
Staying true to its commitment to sustainability, Motorola ships the Moto G64 in a plastic-free box. However, inside the box, you’ll find a plastic/silicone case along with the usual paperwork, a SIM ejector tool, a USB Type-A to Type-C cable, and a 33W fast charging adapter.
Moto G64 5G Review: Design
In terms of design, the Moto G64 5G closely resembles its predecessor, the Moto G54 5G, with minimal changes. Notably, this year, Motorola has opted for vibrant color options, excluding the Black variant. The device features a plastic frame housing the power and volume buttons on the right edge, the SIM tray on the left, and a microphone at the top. At the bottom, you’ll find the 3.5mm headphone port, USB Type-C port, a second microphone, and a speaker.
The rear panel, crafted from plastic, boasts a glossy finish that creates intriguing patterns when light hits it. Positioned in the top left corner is a rectangular camera module, slightly protruding from the panel. Despite its sleek design, the module causes the phone to wobble when placed on a flat surface. On the front, a Gorilla Glass panel protects the display, surrounded by thick bezels, particularly noticeable at the bottom. The hole-punch cutout at the top houses the front camera. Overall, the Moto G64 5G maintains the essence of its predecessor, weighing 192g and measuring 8.9mm in thickness. Additionally, it carries an IP52 dust and water resistance rating, though caution is advised against exposing it to water or rain.
Moto G64 5G Review: Specifications and Software
Under the hood, the Moto G64 5G debuts the world’s first MediaTek Dimensity 7025 SoC, a modest upgrade over its predecessor. This chipset is coupled with the IMG BXM-8-256 GPU, offering up to 12GB LPDDR4X RAM and 256GB UFS 2.2 storage, expandable via a microSD card.
In terms of connectivity, the Moto G64 supports 14 5G bands with 3 carrier aggregation, dual SIM support via a Hybrid SIM tray, Bluetooth 5.3, dual-band Wi-Fi, GPS, A-GPS, LTEPP, GLONASS, Galileo, QZSS, NFC support, a 3.5mm headphone port, FM Radio, and a USB Type-C (USB 2.0) port. Additionally, the device features a side-mounted fingerprint scanner integrated into the Power/Wake button, delivering fast and reliable performance.
Software-wise, the Moto G64 runs on Android 14-based My UX out of the box. While users have access to the latest software, Motorola has committed to providing the Android 15 update, along with 3 years of security updates. The device comes loaded with Motorola features such as Family Space 2.0, Moto Secure, Game Mode, and several Moto apps. However, users may encounter bloatware in the form of pre-installed apps like GamesHub, Entertainment, and Shopping, though most of them can be uninstalled.
Moto G64 5G Review: Performance
Equipped with the MediaTek Dimensity 7025 SoC, the Moto G64 delivers improved performance compared to its predecessor. During our testing, the device achieved an impressive AnTuTu score of 4,94,364 points. Additionally, on Geekbench, it scored 1012 points in the Single-core CPU test and 2403 points in the multi-core test. In daily usage, the phone exhibited smooth performance, with minimal lag or stuttering while navigating through apps and system animations. This seamless experience is further enhanced by the 6.5-inch IPS LCD display, offering up to 120Hz refresh rate, full-HD+ resolution, 240Hz sampling rate, and HDR10 support. However, the display’s peak brightness of 560 nits may pose visibility challenges outdoors.
On the audio front, the Moto G64 5G features a hybrid dual-speaker setup, delivering decent sound quality, albeit lacking bass and maximum volume. Call quality, however, remains excellent, complemented by two microphones that ensure clear voice transmission. Gaming enthusiasts will appreciate the device’s ability to handle graphic-intensive games like Asphalt 9 and Call of Duty, albeit in medium settings. Moreover, efficient heat management ensures that the device remains cool even during prolonged gaming sessions.
In terms of battery life, the Moto G64 5G is equipped with a robust 6,000mAh battery, offering extended usage durations. In our HD video loop test, the device delivered approximately 16 hours of screen-on time. Despite its impressive battery capacity, charging speeds may seem slow, requiring nearly 1 hour and 50 minutes to fully charge the battery from 0 percent.
Moto G64 5G Review: Cameras
Moving on to the camera setup, the Moto G64 features a dual rear camera configuration, comprising a primary 50-megapixel sensor with f/1.8 aperture and optical image stabilization, alongside an 8-megapixel ultra-wide camera with auto-focus and macro mode. For selfies, the device sports a 16-megapixel front camera with f/2.4 aperture. The camera app offers various modes, including Pro and Night mode, enhancing the user experience. In well-lit conditions, the main rear camera captures vibrant images with adequate detail, albeit with slight oversaturation. The ultra-wide camera also performs commendably, though color consistency between the main and ultra-wide cameras may vary. Low-light photography yields mixed results, with Night mode improving image quality to some extent.
On the video front, the Moto G64 5G records decent footage in daylight, albeit with oversaturated colors and inconsistent panning. Stabilization is satisfactory, though low-light videos may lack detail and suffer from noise.
Moto G64 5G Review: Verdict
In conclusion, the Moto G64 5G presents a compelling option in the budget smartphone segment. Despite facing stiff competition, particularly from the Realme P1, Redmi Note 13, Vivo T3x, and Samsung Galaxy A15,
